Peace School (community Saturday school) (“we”) are running this volunteer programme (the “Programme”). This privacy notice applies to all personal information we collect or process about you; this is any information or a combination of pieces of information that could reasonably allow you to be identified (“personal information”).

We are a ‘data controller’ responsible for the personal information we collect about you through the programme, and this privacy notice describes how we may collect and process personal information about you, how we may use and protect this information and your rights in relation to this information.

1. What kind of information do we collect?

1.1 When you sign up to participate in the Programme, we will collect the following categories of information from you:

(a) Personal details (e.g. name)

(b) Contact details (e.g. phone number, email address, city and country of residence) Providing this information is optional and will only be collected if you consent to be contacted to participate in future testing;

(c) Demographic details (e.g. ethnicity). Providing this information is optional and we will only collect and use it with your explicit consent.

2. How is your information used and on what basis?

2.1 We are required to have a legal basis to use your personal information. We use your personal information for the purposes set out below. Where it states elsewhere in this privacy notice that we will rely on your consent to collect and use particular personal information, the legal basis will be your consent. For other personal information, the legal basis we rely on is also set out below:

(a) Communicating with you. We will send you further information about the Programme and about our products and services if you have provided your consent to receiving such messages; and

(b) Carrying out analysis. We may use your personal information to perform analysis on trends or correlations in Arabic language learning and needs.

3. Your rights over your personal information

3.1 You have certain rights regarding your personal information, subject to local law. These include the right to:

      • access your personal information;
      • rectify the information we hold about you;
      • erase your personal information;
      • restrict our use of your personal information;
      • object to our use of your personal information; and
      • receive your personal information in a usable electronic format and transmit it to a third party (right to data portability).

3.2 We encourage you to contact us to update or to correct your information if it changes or if the personal information we hold about you is inaccurate.

4. Information Sharing

4.1 We may share your personal information with third parties under the following circumstances:

(a) Service providers and business partners. We may share your personal information with our service providers and business partners that perform marketing services and other business operations for us. For example, we may partner with other companies to send newsletters and marketing emails and carry out data analytics on our behalf.

(b) Law enforcement agency, court, regulator, government authority or other third party. We may share your personal information with these parties where we believe this is necessary to comply with a legal or regulatory obligation, or otherwise to protect our rights or the rights of any third party.

(c) Asset purchasers. We may share your personal information with any third party that purchases, or to which we transfer, all or substantially all of our assets and business. Should such a sale or transfer occur, we will use reasonable efforts to try to ensure that the entity to which we transfer your personal information uses it in a manner that is consistent with this privacy notice.

5. Information Retention

5.1 We will keep your personal information for as long as the Programme lasts. This will be the time that it takes to study the data and to train and test our algorithm. When deciding how long to keep your personal information after our relationship with you has ended, we take into account our legal obligations and regulators’ expectations. After that period has expired, we will securely delete or anonymise all your personal information. We may also retain records to investigate or defend potential legal claims.

You will be able to see when we last updated the privacy notice because we will include a revision date. Changes and additions to this privacy notice are effective from the date on which they are posted. Please review this privacy notice from time to time to check whether we have made any changes to the way in which we use your personal information.
